Breathing has been stressful over the past few years. Ever notice that once you start thinking about your breathing, it's hard to stop? I bet you are noticing your own breathing right now. The world has been thinking about breathing for the last two and a half years and it's been stressful and exhausting. I remember the first time that I went to get groceries when everything was locked down. "Only essential workers" and "no unnecessary travel" come to mind in this memory. When shopping, I found myself concentrating on my breath (partly because I was wearing a mask and wasn't used to it). I had joined a herd of full shopping carts sweating and distracted by picturing particles from every person flying through the air. As people around me became more and more afraid, my faith got me through this. I said, "It's Your Breath in our lungs so we pour out our praise to you only, God. Great are You Lord." This song became an anthem for us about the greatness of God in the midst of worldwide confusion. While saying this we remember that it is His breath, that He is in control, not to be afraid, that He is Great and that is why we pour out our praise!
Haters Gonna Hate
There are some that nit-pick. I have seen the word "every" focused on by many critiques of this song and I don't think it is warranted. Each individual word in a song can't be taken in a vacuum. I think that it is obvious that the song isn't saying EVERY heart that is broken will be restored and given hope whether they believe in Jesus or not. It is extremely clear that this song is glorifying the Lord, Jesus Christ. Every line of the song agrees with scripture and can be cross-referenced with where it came from in the Bible. The assertion that the word "every" being in a song somehow means it is promoting Universalism is ridiculous. This song is glorifying Jesus Christ. He is the one that gives hope and is a light in the darkness. He is the one that restores every heart that is broken. Be careful with those that would nit-pick a song like this showing a lack of grace and try to have a bucket filled with grace for them in return.
Lyrics
You give life, You are loveYou bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
To You only
You give life, You are love
You bring light to the darkness
You give hope, You restore
Every heart that is broken
Great are You, Lord
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
To You only
[x2]
All the earth will shout
Your praise
Our hearts will cry
These bones will sing
Great are You, Lord
[x3]
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
We pour out our praise
It's Your breath in our lungs
So we pour out our praise
To You only
[x2]
Thanks for sharing this Andy! I read your blog this morning and have had the song in my head for much of the day. It’s been a good reminder that everything we have is God’s, including the breath in our lungs!
