Day 10: Center -Charlie Hall

Since the beginning, people have lifted their eyes to the heavens and thought that they were at the center of the Universe.  It turns out that only God can be at the center.  Above is a picture of the microwave background radiation left after the Big Bang.  Although the phrase, "Big Bang" sounds like an explosion that takes place at a single point, what it really describes is an everywhere expansion much like inflating a balloon.  Imagine that the entire Universe was a small deflated bag of rubber and breath was breathed in.  This Universe would expand and the rubber molecules would pull apart from each other everywhere at the same time.  This is similar to the expansion of what we see in the Universe as we look out at the night sky with powerful telescopes.  Measurements show that the galaxies are pulling away from each other like they are all on the surface of a balloon.  So, each person's view of things pulling away from them makes it seem at first like they are the center of the Universe, where the Big Bang happened, but what is really happening is an everywhere expansion where the only "center" is the breath that is breathing into the balloon.  God gives that breath to the Universe and He is the center of the Universe.  We can choose to look at life like we are the center of our lives or we can ask Him to be the center of our lives.

Lyrics

Oh Christ, be the center of our livesBe the place we fix our eyes
Be the center of our lives

And You're the center of the universe
Everything was made in You, Jesus
Breath of every living thing
Everyone was made for You

You hold everything together
You hold everything together

Oh Christ, be the center of our lives
Be the place we fix our eyes
Be the center of our lives

Oh Christ, be the center of our lives
Be the place we fix our eyes
Be the center of our lives

You're the center of the universe

And You're the center of the universe
Everything was made in You, Jesus
Breath of every living thing
Everyone was made for You

You hold everything together
You hold everything together
You hold everything together
You hold everything together

Oh Christ, be the center of our lives
Be the place we fix our eyes
Be the center of our lives

Lift our eyes

And we lift our eyes to heaven
And we wrap our lives around Your life
We lift our eyes to heaven, to You

And we lift our eyes to heaven
And we wrap our lives around Your life
We lift our eyes to heaven, to You

Oh Christ, be the center of our lives
Be the place we fix our eyes
Be the center of our lives
Center of our lives

We lift our eyes

We lift our eyes to heaven
And we wrap our lives around Your life
We lift our eyes to heaven, to You

Source of life, Jesus

We lift our eyes to heaven
And we wrap our lives around Your life
We lift our eyes to heaven, to You

Turn your eyes on Jesus

And turn your eyes upon Jesus
And look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

Final Thoughts

Let's look up at the night sky and acknowledge that God is the center of the Universe, breathing life into the balloon and into our lives.  In the comments, tell me about a time that you looked at the night sky and thanked God.  That's your bucket full of grace for today.  If you'd like to make sure you don't miss my posts each day, follow me in the upper right corner.  Facebook doesn't show this to most of my friend list when I post but if you choose to follow, I think it will automatically go to your inbox.
