so my soul pants for you, my God. 2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?" This psalm and this song shows the emotional and passionate side of faith, longing to worship God. If you are an analytical type like me and find this hard to wrap your head around then here's something you can think about in this song to help you deepen your connection. This Psalm is attributed to the Sons of Korah and understanding who they were can give you a lot to think about within this song.
The Sons of Korah
In 2 Chronicles 20:19 we find that the sons of Korah were Levites, from the family of Kohath. When David was writing the Psalms, they served as musicians in the temple. So, being named as the sons of Korah, means that their lineage was very important to understanding them. In Numbers 16, their father Korah led a rebellion of 250 leaders in the community against Moses during the Exodus in the wilderness. God judged Korah and the other leaders and they all died. However, the sons of Korah lived. We see that in Numbers 26:9-11, perhaps the sons of Korah were so thankful that they didn't die according to their father's sin that they wrote this psalm.
Aren't we all glad that we didn't die according to our father's sins? We can worship the Lord with our emotions, our passion, and our intellect all with thankfulness for what He has done in His Mercy.
Lyrics -As the Deer
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after Thee
You alone are my heart's desire
And I long to worship Thee
You're my friend And You are my brother
Even though You are a King
I love You more than any other
So much more than anything
I want You more than gold or silver
Only You can satisfy
You alone are the real joy giver
And the apple of my eye
Lyrics -Steadfast Love Endures
The steadfast love of the LordNever ceases
His mercies they never come
To an end
They are new every morning
They are new everyday
They are new ever morning
Great is Thy faithfulness
O Lord O Lord
